INFANTRY

1st Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment

Who we are

The First Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment, ‘The Vikings’. We predominately recruit from the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire but are open to all that wish to become part of our Regimental Family.

1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment

We are a highly professional Infantry Battalion and along with the 2nd Battalion (Regular Army) and the 3rd Battalion (Army Reserve) are part of The Royal Anglian Regiment.

We are trained and prepared to deploy on a variety of operations in the UK and across the globe.

The Regiment's family background and connections into the community are important to us and we welcome new soldiers and officers to our Battalion with open arms.

What we do

'The Vikings' have recently returned from two simultaneous six-month operations; Operation TORAL in Kabul, Afghanistan and Operation TRENTON in South Sudan.

The core role for both operations was to provide essential force protection to civil and military personnel, enabling them to advise the host nation senior leaders as well as to provide a quick reaction force which provided essential support to a number of high profile attacks.

At Play

It is not all work - scuba diving, mountain biking, sky diving and skiing are but a few of the sports and adventurous training opportunities that have been exploited by our Viking soldiers.

Even if you haven't tried any of these sports before, join 'The Vikings' and learn a new skill; two first time skiers completed three months of training before competing in the Army Ski Championships! Being based in Woolwich offers quick and easy access into London for all that the capital city has to offer as well as easy transport links back home or to the airport for a trip away.
