What we do

The Steelbacks’ are a highly professional Army Reserve unit. Which supports the Regular Army by providing augmenters for operational deployment, engagement tasks, international peacekeeping and stability operations. We have deployed soldiers on operations in countries including; Iraq, Afghanistan, Mali, Kenya and Australia, both in support of the Regular Army and as a formed unit in support of wider operations.

Our sub-units meet once a week and take part in planned weekend training and annual deployment exercises in the UK and overseas.

We continue to support the Army in its operational output whilst also providing a wide range of Army focused training to the individuals who join us both as Officers and Soldiers.

Sport with the Battalion

Not only do we engage in military training, exercises and operations, we also like our soldiers to engage in Army Sports and to take themselves out of their comfort zones on challenging Adventure Training. Both Sports and Adventure Training help develop a well-rounded soldier / leader who is capable under pressure. The Battalion participate in a number of annual sporting events / competitions from Football Matches to Golf Tournaments with those who excel going on to represent the Army Reserve at National level.

We encourage participation in Adventure Training, whether that is on Battalion organised Skiing Foundation Course, on a multi activity package which could encompass Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Canoeing or a host of other activities on a basic hill walking weekend or major foreign expedition. If you aspire to be an Instructor the national courses are available to help you achieve that.

There is so much more on offer to a 3 Royal Anglian reserve than just military training.
