Who we are
The Band of the Prince of Wales is comprised of musicians from The Royal Corps of Army Music and is one of the 14 Regular Army Bands in the British Army. Based in Brecon, Wales, the band has been in existence since 2017 with its roots being firmly embedded within the former Lucknow and Clive Bands of The Prince Of Wales’s Division.
The instrumentation of this band is focused on the brass family and provides a range of small specialist ensembles to events such as dinner nights, church services and Remembrance events across Wales and the United Kingdom.
The band is well travelled having performed in Germany, Cyprus, Dubai, Kuwait, the Falkland Islands and also at the FA Cup Final at Wembley stadium.
Recent years
In 2014, as part of Future Army Music, the band re-rolled from a wind band and re-located to St Athan in South Wales.
Whilst in St Athan, the band undertook a number of Short-Term Training Team activities in countries including Kosovo, Uganda, Macedonia, Morocco and Bosnia as well as its normal duties within the UK.
In 2019, the band was relocated to their new home in Brecon, enabling it to support the British Army in Wales and continue its Welsh heritage.

Lance Corporal Herman - Trombone
Growing up in Pontypridd, South Wales, Lance Corporal (LCpl) Joshua Herman started to learn the trombone through the Rhondda Cynon Taff Music Service. He studied Music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in Cardiff and gained a BMus (Hons) in 2016. During his studies, he had the opportunity to perform at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo as the Principal Trombonist with the RWCMD Brass Band.
LCpl Herman has played in brass bands since he was 12 years old. He has been a member of the City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) Brass Band, Brunel Brass and currently plays with Tredegar Town Band. Performing at the highest levels, he has competed at The British Open, The National Brass Band Championships and The European Brass Band Championships.
Having joined British Army Music in 2017 he is now the Principal Trombonist of The Band of The Prince of Wales. Whilst in the band, LCpl Herman has travelled to Germany, undertaken a tour to America with the British Army Brass Band and represented Army music as part of a Short-Term Training Team in Kosovo and Algeria.
LCpl Herman said, “One of the biggest perks of the job is the opportunity to travel. Some of my best experiences have been on Adventurous Training - skiing in Austria and mountaineering in Snowdonia, Wales and Loch Lomond, Scotland.”
