Joining the UOTC

Exeter University 2003 Camp. Officer cadets From Exeter University Officer Training Corps on Annual camp at Crowbourgh camp in Sussex.

Previous military experience to join an UOTC is not required. Volunteers normally sign up for the three years but can resign at anytime for any reason. Most cadets enjoy the training and the insights they gain into military life so much that they see it through.

Eligibility

To join the UOTC, you need to be:

    • in full time higher education
    • a British Citizen (or Commonwealth?)
    • physically fit and want to stay that way
    • Aged between 18 - 30
    • Have at least two years left on the university course

Commitment

Studies must come first and UOTC training and exercises are structured around the academic calendar.

Most UOTC activities take place during the winter and spring terms with a two week summer camp which is scheduled early to allow for other work and leisure commitments.

Having successfully completed basic training, the amount of time cadets commit to TA activities depends on the amount of time that can be spared.

Training takes place on one evening a week as well as some weekends and an annual 15 days camp.
