University Officers' Training Corps

Manchester and Salford UOTC

HOW TO JOIN US

Manchester and Salford University Officer Training Corps (MSUOTC) recruits from universities right across the local area. We are a part of the North West Officer Training Regiment (NWOTR).

WHO WE ARE

Manchester and Salford Universities Officers’ Training Corps (MSUOTC) is a non-deployable Army Reserve unit offering university students within the Greater Manchester area the opportunity to undertake basic military training alongside their degree. The UOTC provides a standard of experience and training that is well respected within the Army, and highly sort after by numerous civilian employers.

Being part of the Army Reserve means students, known as Officer Cadets (OCdts) are paid for the training they do. The UOTC’s training programme is specifically designed around the university academic year, a student’s studies are always the priority.

MILITARY TRAINING

In their first year, Officer Cadets will cover basic soldering skills; from the wearing of uniform correctly to conducting attacks. Officer Cadets in their second year will focus on leadership training, managing soldiers, equipment and the battlefield. Module B will teach them how to form, deliver and then execute a military plan. For those remaining for a third or fourth year, Officer Cadets have the opportunity to take up leadership positions within the UOTC.

Many of our Officer Cadets use their time in the UOTC to prepare for the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB) with the intent of joining the Regular Army or the Army Reserve.  With no commitment to join after university, some of our Officer Cadets head into industry with the skills and qualities gained during their time in the UOTC enabling them to stand out from their peers in a competitive jobs market.

SPORT, ADVENTUROUS TRAINING AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The UOTC also offers a wealth of opportunities for sport, from competitive teams in rugby, football, hockey, netball and polo, the UOTC provides Officer Cadets the opportunity to try new sports as well as compete at the highest levels in their chosen sport.

Adventurous Training allows Officer Cadets to push their limits, from kayaking to mountain biking and skiing to rock climbing, the UOTC offers unrivalled opportunities, both in the UK and overseas at a reduced cost.

Offering a fantastic social calendar, from formal Regimental military dinners to cocktail parties and quiz nights to fancy dress parties, the UOTC has it all.

Offering the chance to make life-long friends, providing internationally-renowned leadership training, and offering a regular source of pay, the UOTC is a remarkable opportunity for young people seeking a student life less ordinary.
