His Majesty King Charles III is recognising 70 British Army personnel with honours and awards in the military division of his Birthday Honours List, published in the London Gazette on Friday 13 June 2025.
Regular and Reserve soldiers and officers are cited for exceptional vision, persistent selfless commitment, and professional drive, with many going above and beyond what is expected of them.
The men and women receiving awards have made outstanding contributions both at home and overseas. These include the provision of specialist medical knowledge that has saved the lives of hundreds of service personnel in the line of duty, providing outstanding support to veterans, safely removing a World War Two bomb found in a garden that could have destroyed hundreds of homes, and aiding Defence’s efforts to support Ukraine, saving the lives of countless Ukrainian soldiers and helping keep Ukraine in the fight well beyond expectations.

The previous Army Sergeant Major, Paul Carney, who now serves with the Corps of Royal Engineers, is to be made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).
His citation says: “Whilst Army Sergeant Major, and throughout his career, Major Carney’s service to the British Army and his country has been outstanding. He was the principal adviser to three Chiefs of the General Staff, led the Army’s efforts on mental health awareness, and oversaw the development of the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy. In so doing, he has demonstrably improved the lives and professional outputs of the British Army soldier. His advocacy has touched everything from infrastructure, to dress policy, and operations. His influence has been evident in most soldier-facing policy over the past two years, and his contributions have always improved it. He worked tirelessly with and on the Armed Forces Pay Review Body, Digital Skills for Defence, and the Modernised Accommodation Offer; all of which have seen positive changes across Army for its soldiers.”
