158 Regiment

East Midlands and East of England Logistic Regiment. 158 Regiment, part of 102 Operational Sustainment Brigade, is a modern and diverse Army reserve transport regiment. Its role is to provide logistic support to 1 Aviation Brigade Combat Team through general transport, fuel and bulk liquid transport and a supply capability, ensuring their Apache aircraft have what they need to keep flying.

The regiment is organised into five squadrons:

  • 200 Headquarters Squadron - Peterborough
  • 201 Squadron - Bedford and Luton
  • 202 Squadron - Ipswich and Colchester
  • 261 Squadron – Milton Keynes
  • 294 Squadron – Grantham

The Headquarters Squadron consists of all elements required to support the single supply and three transport squadrons. This includes: communications operators, catering support, human resources and physical training specialists. We continue to develop a good relationship with both our paired regular regiment, 1 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps, as well as 7 Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, with whom we would work if deployed on operations with 1st Aviation Brigade Combact Team (BCT).

Officers and soldiers of 158 Regiment RLC are experts in logistics. Equally as comfortable on foot as they are at the wheel of a MAN support vehicles 6 tonne truck, their versatility means they find themselves supporting 1 Aviation BCT in many different roles, including:

  •         Driving MAN Support Vehicles, including 6 tonne cargo/flat platform and the Enhanced Pallet Load System (EPLS) off road.
  •         Training soldiers to acquire their Category B and C vehicle licences.
  •         Communicating with specialist radios.
  •         Commanding from the front.
  •         Making judgement calls in tough situations.

Every operation and exercise, no matter where it is in the world, is supported by the RLC regular and reserve units, including members of 158 Regiment RLC. Our team of specialist tradespeople are able to operate a wide range of logistic vehicles and equipment, including:

  •         MAN Support Vehicles (MAN SV) – 6, 9 and 15-tonne variants
  •         Land Rover Truck Utility Medium (TUM), Truck Utility Light (TUL) and Fitted For Radio (FFR)
  •         Forklifts
  •         Close Support Tanker (CST)

The Regiment employs Regular and Reservist soldiers in various trades from across the RLC. Trained as soldiers first, they then develop a wide range of specialist skills through their individual trades; most of which are directly transferable into the civilian workplace. These trades include:

We also employ Officers who train at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) and personnel from the following cap badges: Royal Army Medical Service (RAMS) and Adjutant General's Corps (AGC(SPS)).

Sergeant Lee Benedetti

Upon completing 24 years in the regular army in June 2018, I transferred to 254 Medical Regiment as the RLC section commander, overseeing military transport and fleet management.

During COVID, I was mobilised to Defence School of Transport (DST) Leconfield for driver training, later supporting 102 Logistics Brigade in Grantham. After a reserve reshuffle, I moved to 150 Regiment, then 158 Regiment in May 2024 to continue brigade-level driver training. Promoted to Sergeant in October 2023, I completed my Army Leadership and Development Programme (ALDP) in May 2024. Throughout, I attended all training events across three regiments while delivering driver training. I remain a dedicated Army reserve member and strongly encourage others to consider joining.

Sporting Opportunities

Sports and Adventurous Training are a big part of regimental life and all personnel are encouraged to take part in various activities while serving in 158 Regiment RLC. In 2020, we are proud that members of the regiment travelled to Ruhpolding in Germany to take part in the RLC skiing competition.

We also take part in other sports such as: caving, hill walking, mountain biking and kayaking - all designed to challenge and take you out of your comfort zone.

Private Shannon Conway

I served four years in the Regular Army as a Combat Medical Technician, mostly in Germany. Leaving to pursue my dream of becoming a paramedic, I now work as an Emergency Medical Ambulance Technician with East Midlands and will start my paramedic degree next year. Missing the camaraderie of Army life, I was thrilled to rejoin as a medic with 158 Regiment RLC. Since then, I’ve led Team Medic Courses and deployed on Exercise Halberd Dawn, assessing medical serials, coaching personnel, and providing real-time medical support. Joining the reserves has been one of my best decisions.
