32 Engineer Regiment

32 Engineer Regiment provide close support engineering to 7 Light Mechanised Brigade Combat Team, the Desert Rats, and is currently aligned to the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force.

32 Engineer Regiment has three subordinate Field Squadrons and one Headquarters and Support Squadron.

Each Field Squadron provides close support engineering to units within the Brigade, allowing them to live, move and fight within their area of operations.

The Headquarters and Support Squadron holds specialised capabilities such as a Reconnaissance Troop, Construction Supervision Cell, Army Dive Cell and Automotive Bridge Launching Equipment. This Squadron is also responsible for the Terrier armoured combat engineer tractor.

We are based in Marne Barracks, Catterick on the edge of Catterick Garrison. We boast access to large military training areas and have access to the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales in which to live and train.

We have good transport links being on the A1(M) across the North, to the South, and up to Scotland, making it a popular location.

We share a camp with 5 Regiment Royal Artillery.

32 Engineer Regiment Timeline

32 Engineer Regiment derives its heritage from the engineer tank units, christened Hobart’s Funnies, from the Second World War.

This was name after their creator, Major General Sir Percy Hobart, who commanded the 79th Armoured Division whose famous Bull’s head (Winston) insignia is still worn by the Regiment on its uniform.

Formed in May at Perham Down, UK.

Regiment reformed at Hohne, Germany.

Deployed to Northern Ireland.

Reformed, moved barracks to Munsterlager, Germany and deployed in the Gulf War.

Deployed to Bosnia.

Deployed to Kosovo.

Deployed to Iraq on Operation Telic.

Resubordinated to their current Headquarters, 7th Light Mechanised Brigade Combat Team.
