39 Engineer Regiment

We provide engineering and technical support to both the British Army and the Royal Air Force (RAF). Our Sappers are multi skilled and the only Regular Army regiment able to focus on providing ground based support to the air components of the Armed Forces.

We offer specialist Air Support engineering, as well as a composite of combat engineer and artisan trade skills. Therefore, making the Regiment a versatile, flexible and highly deployable asset to the RAF and British Army.

We are regularly called upon to support UK operational commitments, in a construction based capacity.

Kinloss Barracks is situated on the Moray Coast three miles from the town of Forres, between Inverness and Elgin. Inverness international airport (23 miles), Forres railway station and local bus services provide good transport links.

The area is famous for its whisky, golf and miles of sandy beaches. There are innumerable activities and easy access to the stunning natural landscape; here you could be surfing in the morning and skiing in the Cairngorms after lunch.

39 Engineer Regiment Timeline

In 1977 Headquarter Royal Engineer Airfields was renamed 39 Engineer Regiment. The regiment became responsible for providing engineering support to the RAF. With the growing demands of Army aviation, the regiment now provides ground based support to both Army and RAF components, as well as being responsible for providing specialist ground support to the Army.
