Our Role
19th Light Brigade forms a key part of the British Army’s operational capability. The Brigade
consists of two Light Cavalry and eight Infantry units. As part of 1st (UK) Division, it is
designed to deploy as the main component of the Rear Area Operations Group, supporting
the Army’s fighting power. Brigade units train together on major exercises, deploy overseas,
support partners such as Ukraine, and contribute to UN and NATO operations.
Serving in the Army Reserve, the Brigade’s soldiers balance civilian careers with military
training and operational service. Former Regular soldiers and civilians from a wide range of
professions bring skills and expertise, while remaining closely connected to the communities
they serve.
