Regimental Headquarters

We are based in Fulwood Barracks, Preston, which has a long association with the Regiment. Fulwood Barracks has, throughout its history, been the main focus of military activity in Lancashire, and has often had wider regional responsibilities. Today it houses the Army's regional headquarters and is the main focus of military activity in the North West.

Luke, 25, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

Through the years

Our Regiment was formed on 1st July 2006, by the amalgamation of the King's Own Royal Border Regiment, the King's Regiment and the Queen's Lancashire Regiment. We recruit from the Mersey to Scotland, the Pennines to the Isle of Man.

The 4th, or King’s Own Regiment of Foot, was raised by King Charles II.

Our 12 Regiments were formally linked by name to their recruiting areas in the North West.

We raised 176 battalions in World War 1, earning 124 battle honours,  43 VCs and 1 GC.

We raised 67 battalions in World War 2, earning 108 battle honours, 2 VCs and 1 GC.

The King’s Own Royal Border Regiment, The King’s Regiment, and The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment, together with 23 respective companies of The Lancastrian and Cumbrian Volunteers and The King’s and Cheshire Regiment, merged to form The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (King’s, Lancashire and Border).

Both our battalions, supported by our Reserve battalion, served in Afghanistan.
