Royal Military Police

The Royal Military Police (RMP) are a Regulatory body with exclusive investigative and policing skills and competencies, undertaking military tasks complementary to our specialist role. Our core tasks are to 'police the Force and provide police support to the Force'.

The role of the Royal Military Police Junior Non-Commissioned Officer (JNCO) forms the basis from which all routine Military Provost activity is provided to the Army.

Trade training includes police duties and law, including interviewing techniques, basic forensic awareness, driver training and personal safety training with the use of baton and handcuffs. Upon successful completion of trade training soldiers are promoted into the rank of Lance Corporal.

The RMP JNCO contributes to the Military Provost role of ‘Police the Force’ through the conduct of Policing and Investigations. Once competent in the investigative role RMP soldiers have the opportunity to specialise in a number of MP capabilities.

RMP Officer

The role of an Royal Military Police Junior Officer is to command, control and coordinate the tactical implementation and delivery of generalist MP support, across the full range of MP Functions, within the construct of a General Police Duty Company. An RMP Junior Officer will possess the necessary command skills and understanding, commensurate to their rank, to deliver, coordinate and direct Military Provost activities effectively and with a degree of autonomy when dislocated from the primary chain of command.

RMP Reserves

RMP Reserves are highly trained people who work closely with their Regular Army counterparts on exercise and during operations. The RMP Reserve are trained to undertake a variety of challenging roles providing military police support to the Army.

Once competent in the investigative role, RMP soldiers have the opportunity to specialise in a number of MP capabilities including Close Protection, Evidential Imagery, Digital Forensics and Intelligence.
