Close Protection Unit
Close Protection (CP) is defined as "the preventative and reactive measures taken by trained personnel to protect a person who is specifically or generally at threat from assassination, kidnapping, terrorism or other illegal acts".
The Close Protection Unit provides specialist CP support to Senior Military Officers and Senior Government Officials to enable their freedom of movement and protection in high threat environments overseas.
Within this, CP Teams’ roles and responsibilities include operational planning, conducting reconnaissance, liaison and providing individually assigned bodyguards, personal escort sections, security advance parties and residential security teams. The RMP CPU is the NATO lead on CP capability development.

Evidential Imagery
The Multimedia & Evidential Imagery Team (MEIT) works with digital multimedia evidence (DME) in support of Service Police investigations. From enhancing CCTV footage retrieved at a crime scene, to creating a 3D replication from a laser scan, a role within MEIT is both intense and varied.
Typical responsibilities include:
Processing CCTV footage – including enhancement, and production of still images.
Crime Scene Replication – using 360 photography, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanning and 3D modelling.
Video Reconstruction – of events and locations pertinent to an investigation.

Digital Forensics
The Digital Forensic Department is the RMP's digital forensic capability and acts as a centre of technical expertise for cyber-crime within the Service Police. As electronic devices increasingly embed themselves into modern culture, the opportunities for recovering digital evidence are ever present. Similarly, the fast progression of technology means that the Digital Forensic Department must continually train and adapt to meet the pace of innovation and invention.
Typical responsibilities include:
Exploitation of digital devices for evidence - using specialised hardware and software.
Analysis of recovered data and the production of detailed forensic reports to aid Service Police investigations.
24 hour, seven days a week advisory service to Service Police Investigators in the field and provision of expert opinion at Courts Martial.

Intelligence
Operations Room - The Operations Room is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, by a tri-service Service Police contingent. They provide a central focal point for all 'Requests for Information' (RFI) on past and current serving members of the forces. The Operations Room has access to a vast number of databases and external information sources providing vital information to assist investigations and Intelligence Led Policing Operations worldwide.
Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) - The FIB is the main point of contact for all intelligence for the Royal Navy and Army. They assist in establishing an accurate picture of current and emerging trends and are responsible for the collection, analysis and dissemination of intelligence. With access to numerous Military and Civilian databases, they can incorporate many avenues of investigation, including Communications Data, International Liaison, and Offender Intelligence. Analysis of intelligence and data is conducted with Service Police units, in order to produce a product that is ready for Courts Martial.

Crime Scene Investigator
The RMP's Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) work within scientific support hubs (SSHs) and provide a specialist forensic capability in support of Service Police investigations in the UK and overseas. CSIs operate from three hubs: Bulford, Henlow, and Catterick, providing national coverage for forensic capabilities. Each hub is contactable 24/7 for scene attendance and forensic advice, with two personnel at readiness at all times to support rapid overseas deployment.
The SSHs provide forensic submissions advice and act as the central liaison between Service Police and forensic laboratories, managing all forensic submissions across the Service Police to ensure continuity of investigations and adherence to evidential standards.
Specialist evidence recovery - including ridge detail (fingerprints), DNA, footwear, and instrument marks.
Post-mortem support - encompassing forensic photography and evidential recovery.
Global operational coverage – including body recovery and serious crime scenes, often conducted in austere environments.

Defence Serious Crime Unit
The Defence Serious Crime Unit is an independent, professional and global Service Police force that has jurisdiction to investigate serious crimes alleged to have been committed by persons subject to service law, both in the UK and overseas.
The DSCU has several specialist teams:
Public Protection Unit - Officers trained to deal with serious sexual offences and incidents involving children, ensuring victims are safeguarded, supported and referred to support organisations.
Operations Team - A high state of readiness team to deploy globally with specially trained officers in response to reports of crime.
Major Investigation Team - Trained to deal with Critical Incident Management and larger major crime investigations.
