The Royal School of Artillery

The Royal School of Artillery (RSA), is an international Centre of Excellence for Artillery Training. We are a team of highly qualified instructors from the Royal Artillery (RA), overseas artillery instructors and Civil Servants. We train soldiers to have the ability to find and strike enemy targets. The RSA is located within Larkhill Garrison in the South West of England near the city of Salisbury. The RSA, is an Operations Group within the Land Warfare Centre, which in turn sits under Commander Field Army. The Royal Artillery delivers an extremely wide range of capabilities to the modern battlefield.

The Vision

Our vision is for the RSA to become the World’s best multi-domain fires training establishment. This is important because artillery is a decisive part of fighting, and winning, wars on land.

Rapid technological change is transforming how the Artillery fights on the modern battlefield. This means that our tactics, techniques and procedures must evolve. The RSA is at the forefront of those changes. Innovation and simulation allow better ways of training, and experimentation will lead us to quickly acquire modern technology.

We are evolving to meet new challenges. Providing a modern learning environment, teaching the most up to date skills, to the right people, at the right time.

Future Facing

The Army evolves by learning lessons identified from conflicts. The RSA is a leader in modernising to face future threats. We train soldiers in tactics, techniques, and procedures for new state-of-the-art equipment. We are an agile organisation, ready for further changes as the modern battlefield evolves.

Defence Engagement

The Royal School of Artillery, welcomes the opportunity to train alongside our international partners, further enhancing our status as an international training centre. Our courses continue to reflect the changes and developments in NATO and British Army Military Tactics and Doctrine, including lessons identified in recent operations.

Integration

We train our people in Combined Arms Manoeuvre, both technically and tactically with other Land Warfare Schools. The RSA delivers training that integrates the Artillery with the rest of the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and our international allies. We build strong relationships with these partners to align ourselves with other NATO forces.

A Learning Organisation

Instruction is at the heart of the RSA. We enthuse, mentor and develop students through their studies and the practical aspects of their training. We mix cutting edge technologies such as simulation and augmented reality with real-life scenarios to optimise training.
