CAL Podcasts

The Centre for Army Leadership (CAL) hosts two podcast series that serve as platforms for sharing leadership experiences, insights, and research from across the British Army and beyond. Both series are designed to stimulate professional reflection, generate discussion and broaden the leadership conversation throughout Defence and wider organisations.

The Human Advantage:

Leadership in Action- The Tactical Application:

The Human Advantage is a tactical-level series focused on leadership as it is applied in real-world military contexts. It draws on the lived experiences of junior commanders and frontline leaders who have navigated complexity, ambiguity and challenge on operations and in training.

Each episode centres on a specific theme- such as command in combat, trust in high-stakes environments, or decision-making under pressure, and highlights how good leadership creates the human advantage essential to mission success.

The Human Advantage podcast helps to reinforce the Army’s belief that leadership is a skill that must be nurtured continuously and applied consistently across all levels.

The Main CAL channel:

Exploring Leadership in All Its Forms:

The CAL Podcast is our flagship series. It features in-depth conversations with leaders from the military, sport, academia, business and the public sector. Each episode delves into the personal philosophies, challenges and pivotal moments that have shaped these individuals’ approach to leadership.

Whether exploring resilience on operations, ethical decision-making in high-pressure environments, or lessons from elite sport and high-performing teams, the series aims to uncover what makes great leadership and how it can be developed. Listeners can expect thoughtful dialogue that reflects the depth and diversity of modern leadership.
