On arrival at Glencorse Barracks, Her Royal Highness was met by Major Hamish Waring, the battalion’s Second in Command who escorted her throughout the visit.

Major Hamish Waring said:

“The Battalion was honoured to receive Her Royal Highness today, marking her first visit to Glencorse Barracks since becoming Deputy Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

"Her genuine interest in meeting our soldiers and their families reinforced the strong and enduring connection between the Royal Family and our Regiment.”

Her Royal Highness was introduced to officers, soldiers and their families and was invited to plant a tree, turning the first shovelful of earth, to commemorate the visit.

The tree was planted to mirror an adjacent tree which bears a plaque for Mary, Princess Royal, who planted it in 1929. Although the original tree was replanted by the Lord Lieutenant in 2006, the original plaque remains.

“Today was an incredibly proud moment watching my daughter present Her Royal Highness with the posy. She had been eagerly anticipating this day for weeks, practising her curtsy with excitement."
