Exercise Swift Response
Paratroopers and rocket artillery came together in Sweden to give a potent demonstration of the reach, agility, and lethality of the British Army and its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) allies.
British paratroopers from B Company, 2 PARA, jumped onto Sweden’s Gotland island from Royal Air Force A400M aircraft, securing a road as a Temporary Landing Zone.
They were soon joined by UK Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and United States High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) artillery systems, which conducted a joint fire mission—marking the first time MLRS fired in Sweden and alongside HIMARS. With enemy air defences suppressed, Dutch and United States C130s landed on the Temporary Landing Zone, delivering more troops and equipment.
The operation demonstrated rapid force projection and marked the first overseas A400M parachute drop directly from the UK.
