4th Light Brigade (4 Lt Bde) is a rapidly deployable combat brigade – it is optimised for warfighting in complex terrain and their core purpose is to be first to the fight and win.
4 Lt Bde, better known as ‘The Black Rats’, sit within the 1st (UK) Division – the British Army’s light and airborne warfighting division. The Black Rats are comprised of a Light Cavalry Regiment, six light-role Infantry battalions, plus specialist units from the Army Reserve including artillery and engineers.
4 Lt Bde is headquartered in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, but they conduct demanding warfighting training across the globe, ensuring they are ready to fight alongside NATO allies.
