The Defence School of Policing and Security (DSPS)

The Defence School of Policing and Security (DSPS) mission is to deliver challenging, technically specialist training and education while ensuring Service Personnel remain motivated, physically fit, mentally agile, and robust. This enables capability and supports defence activity in the UK and on global operations. DSPS strives for excellence and aims to position Southwick Park as a world-leading organisation through innovation and collaboration with Partners Across Government (PAG).

DSPS deliver training from ITT up to highly specialised courses for all three services. ITT delivers trained Police and Security Personnel, including specialist investigative skills, through the Joint Police Initial Course (JPIC), which provides Phase 2 training for all Services before graduates receive warrant cards and join units to maintain order, enforce discipline, and ensure security. STT develops expertise in niche areas such as Public and Personal Safety Training (PPST), Crime Scene Investigation, Cyber and Aviation Security, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) training, and Security Risk Management via Directorate of Security and Resilience (DSR).

Courses like the Defence Critical Infrastructure Site Surveyor (DCISS), alongside tactical training, Army Leadership Development, and specialist single-Service courses support operational requirements and the Service Justice System.

We are a diverse and dynamic team dedicated to delivering specialist training that ensures operational excellence and readiness for current and future Defence challenges. Through innovation, collaboration, and professionalism, DSPS continues to enable success across the UK and overseas operations.
