383 Commando Petroleum Troop is a Commando unit which provides its members the opportunity to attempt the All Arms Commando Course in order to earn the coveted Green Beret and serve alongside their regular counterparts.
Commandos are elite soldiers, who are required to operate at a high standard at any time in any environment anywhere in the world. The Commandos of 383 are no different and must meet the same strict standards as their regular counterparts. The primary roles of a Petroleum Operator are the Receipt, Storage and Issue of bulk fuels on the battlefield. They are trained in the construction and operation of Primary Bulk Fuel Installations, which consists of several large fuel tanks and the associated pumps, pipework and filtration systems required to distribute fuel or move product internally within the deployed infrastructure.

They are also responsible for the supply of all packed Fuel, Lubricants and Industrial Gasses to the force. The Petroleum Operator is qualified in the duties of a Petroleum Laboratory Technician, where they are responsible for ensuring that the fuel we are putting into our vehicles and aircraft is of the correct quality by carrying out an array of laboratory tests.
Petroleum Operators are employed throughout the world in both static and deployable fuel installation roles, whether part of a Theatre Logistic Regiment supporting the deployed force, or a small section of operators within the Airborne Task Force or Littoral Strike Group delivering a niche function to support these spearhead units.
