The Regiment is made up of the following squadrons:
- 223 Transport Squadron (Swansea)
- 224 Transport Squadron (Carmarthen, with an additional Troop located in Haverfordwest)
- 249 Headquarters Squadron (Cardiff)
- 398 Transport Squadron (Queensferry)
- 580 Transport Squadron (Cardiff)
The Regiment is an integral part of 101 Operational Sustainment Brigade and is paired with its Regular counterpart, 27 Regiment RLC.
Britain's Armed Forces have the capability to deploy, sustain and recover combat units, anywhere in the world. The Royal Logistic Corps enables this capability and provides trained personnel to operate a wide variety of military vehicles.
157 Regiment:
- Transports supplies in the UK and on operations around the world.
- Supports the Regular Army in delivering a transport capability.
- Supports UK operations to protect and aid our community.
- Manages administrative, catering and communication specialists to deliver our logistic capability.
The Regiment operates a wide variety of vehicles to fulfil our transport role.
These include:
- Six, nine and fifteen-tonne Logistic Support Vehicles
- Forklift Lift Rough Terrain (FLRT)
- Land Rover Truck Utility Medium
- Land Rover Battlefield Ambulance
- Enhanced Pallet Loading System (EPLS)
The Regiment also operates a large fleet of civilian vehicles to deliver its capability.
The Regiment employs a diverse range of people from across Wales and the Welsh/English border and we have roles across all of our squadron locations.
Many members of the Regiment find the skills they develop in the Army Reserve complement and enhance their civilian employment.

“I joined the Army Reserves in my thirties and I am now a trained soldier and Driver with a Category C Licence. I found the training exciting and engaging and it has added value to my civilian career as a nurse, boosting my confidence and fitness. I enjoy the contrast between my full-time job and the training I do with the Reserves at the weekend and look forward to exercises out in the field with the vehicles we have.
I found out very early on that we also have a Corps of Drums and I am now also a trained Drummer for the Regiment and have performed at various events, both military and civilian. It has also given me the opportunity to train alongside the Regular RLC Corps of Drums and perform alongside them, which gives me a great buzz and sense of achievement!”
Sporting Opportunities
The Regiment is fit, ready and extremely proud of its physical prowess across both military skills and sporting competitions. Everyone is encouraged to represent the Regiment, with some excelling and representing The Royal Logistic Corps and the Army. The Regiment has a very successful military skills team, a ski team, and outstanding rugby and football teams.
Pushing ourselves to the limits, we deploy on Adventurous Training to physically and mentally stretch the capacity of our people. You have the opportunity to grow professionally and personally with the Regiment, often in ways you never imagined you could or would have the chance to.

“I joined 157 (Welsh) Regiment RLC a few years after leaving the Regular Army. I felt like something was missing from my life and I was welcomed to 157 Regiment with open arms. The Regiment is not just an employment, it is a family.
During my eight years since re-joining, I have gained my HGV Licences which has enabled me to gain better employment outside the Reserves. I have also gained instructor qualifications that enable me to teach.
I have travelled to Italy and Cyprus as part of training exercises and competitions and have also deployed with a regular unit to support them on a road move from the UK to Morocco which also allowed us to train with the Spanish Army.”
