151 Regiment

151 Regiment RLC is a modern, diverse and forward looking Reserve Transport Regiment, based in Greater London and the South East. Equipped with the latest vehicles, we maintain our Warfighting capability through continuous, purposeful training in the pursuit of professional excellence.

The Regiment has locations based around Greater London and the South East of England.

  • RHQ & 508 (HQ) Squadron (Croydon, Surrey)
  • 210 Transport Squadron (Sutton, Surrey)
  • 240 Transport Squadron (Barnet, Herts)
  • 562 Transport Squadron (Southall, Middlesex)
  • 562 Tpt Sqn G Troop (Aldershot, Hants)
  • 124 Transport Squadron (Warley, Essex)
  • 124 Tpt Sqn B Troop (Maidestone, Kent)
  • 871 Transport Squadron (Marlow, Bucks)

We are paired with and work alongside our Regular counterpart, 10 Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment RLC.

151 Regiment RLC is an integral part of 101 Logistic Brigade (The Iron Vipers), which provides logistic support to 3rd (UK) Armoured Division (The Iron Division). We deliver the right amount of kit, to the right people, at the right time.

The Regiment can proudly trace its origins and affiliations within the City of London back to 1801 and the formation of the Royal Wagon Train in Croydon.

Each year the Regiment represents the RLC on the Lord Mayor of London’s Parade and provides personnel to control the marshalling of the 148 floats. Without them the parade would not be possible.

The Regiment operates a fleet of MAN Support Vehicles (SV). The MAN SV is our ‘workhorse’ providing great mobility. It can be fitted with armour, communication equipment, and a top mounted machine gun for protection. Variants include six, nine, and 15 Tonne Medium Mobility and Enhance Pallet Load System (EPLS).

After initial soldier training, our reservists carry out specialist driver training obtaining Heavy Goods Vehicles and Hazardous Goods (ADR) licences. They are trained to maintain, drive and operate these vehicles in many different types of conditions, including the highly demanding environments they might expect to find on operations.

Our soldiers are rich in diversity and come from a wide range of backgrounds, which represents today’s modern society. Trained as soldiers first, they move on to develop a wide range of skills, many of which are transferable into the civilian work place. We recruit and train people for the following careers:

Lieutenant Dexter Cook

In civilian life, I work as a Managing Director of a blinds company. Army Reserve Training and Regular Army exercises have shaped and enhanced my leadership skills. Being able to make important decisions and react quickly under pressure has helped to develop me as a manager.

Since joining the Reserves, I have enjoyed a wide range of opportunities, taking part in an exciting variety of both Adventurous Training and sport. Using Annual Standard Learning Credits granted by the Army, I was also able to develop my education by attending a language course.

Private Finlay Booker

“I joined the Army Reserves to meet new friends and gain new experiences. As a member of the RLC, there are a wide range of career opportunities available. Since joining, I have obtained my LGV Cat C licence and Class 3 Driver trade qualification. I have met some amazing people and taken part in a wide range of activities, such as parachuting, abseiling and skiing. Driving large vehicles on and off road is exhilarating. The licence also comes in very handy giving you an extra employable skill. Not only is being in the Reserves challenging and rewarding, it is great fun.”
