The only London based Signal Regiment in the Corps, 71 Signal Regiment's role is to provide Information Communication Service (ICS) capability in support of UK standing operations, primarily responding to national major incidents with close CIS support to HQ LONDIST and 7 Inf Bde.
Its mission is to prepare, generate and command ICS capability for contingent forces in order to deliver Combat Command Support to assigned force elements.
The regiment was originally formed in 1969 with 4 squadrons:
- 68 (Inns of Court and City Yeomanry) Signal Squadron
- 70 (Essex Yeomanry) Signals Squadron
- 94 (Berkshire Yeomanry) Signal Squadron
- 265 (Kent and County of London Yeomanry) Signals Squadron

The Regiment has opportunities for fit and able men and women, with an eagerness to learn new skills and work as a member of a team. The Army is an Equal Opportunities Employer and the same trade opportunities are open to both men and women.
Currently we have employment options for; Military Combat Communication Specialists, Military Chefs, Combat Medical Technicians and military HR professionals. You don’t need to have any previous military experience in these trade options, we just ask you to have an interest in that chosen field, the Army will train you to be fully proficient and professionally qualified in the trade you have selected.
As well as being proficient in your chosen trade you will be trained to be a soldier first. This entails many different skills, such as; Battlefield First Aid, Chemical and Biological Warfare, weapon handling and shooting, as well as how to look after yourself and personal equipment.
Obviously military training can be arduous at times, but there will be plenty of opportunities to take part in Adventurous Training, both in the United Kingdom and abroad, where you will be able to enjoy the company of your fellow soldiers, carrying out such activities as; skiing, sailing, mountain biking, hill walking, rock climbing to name but a few.
