2 Signal Regiment enjoys a diverse and exciting role supporting operationally focused HQ. They employ the complete range of the Corps’ capabilities in order to provide that support. Their personnel include:

- Networks Engineers
- Supply Chain Operative
- Power Engineer
Additionally, soldiers within the regiment are provided with the opportunity to expand their employability within cyber through Army and Corps’ level cyber competitions.
214 Signal Squadron focuses on the delivery of tactical communications and information systems, specifically close support to the Light Brigade.
219 Signal Squadron focuses on the delivery of operational communication information systems and beyond line of sight satellite technology in support of the Light Brigade, 1 (United Kingdom) Division and other standing commitments. Additionally, they are the lead in the regiment’s contribution to remembrance activities.
Support Squadron are the regiment’s enabling organisation. They ensure that the unit is appropriately resourced through the management and provision of enabling services to the regiment on operations and in barracks.
The regiment can trace its history back to 2nd Company, The Telegraph Battalion, Royal Engineers. In 1907, it became the Divisional Telegraph Company of the 2nd Infantry Division. From that time until 2010, the Regiment was the Divisional Signal Regiment. From the mid-1980s, the 2nd Infantry Division was the only division stationed in the United Kingdom, specifically York where it remains to this day
After the end of the Cold War the Regiment became a support Signals Regiment within the 11th Signal Brigade.
Military Skills and Deployments
The regiment conducts annual battlecraft skills exercises and deploys regularly in support of the Light Brigade and other commitments. Their soldiers regularly test their military and trade skills during exercises and operations within the UK and across the world.
Adventurous Training and Sport
Like the rest of the Corps, their soldiers have plenty of opportunity to gain Adventurous Training qualifications and hone their sporting abilities. A calendar highlight is the annual inter-Squadron boxing competition!
Race the Sun
Race the Sun is an annual event run by 2nd Signal Regiment on behalf of the Royal Corps of Signals. The event is a multi-activity competition that draws teams from across the Corps (both regular and reserve) and the wider Army to compete on land and in the water; culminating in the infamous stretcher race.
Starting from Imphal Barracks at the crack of dawn, the race follows a 260km clockwise route through the countryside of North Yorkshire, ending approximately 12 hours later back in Imphal Barracks. Encapsulating the name – Race the Sun.
The route follows some of the finest scenery that North Yorkshire has to offer and is the ideal environment for many of the Corps’ finest athletes to test their physical fitness, navigational aptitude and team spirit.
Community Engagement
The regiment conducts a variety of activities within the local community. These include STEM engagements within schools, sustainability initiatives in affiliation with local charities and military parades in support of the Freedom of York and Remembrance Sunday.
