MOSU will provide Service Support staff to augment formation headquarters on exercises and operations. In doing so, it will develop a range of medical expertise in command and staff work, Health Sector Development (HSD), humanitarian relief response and clinical mentoring capability.
The unit covers a range of specialist areas including medical intelligence, environmental health, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) and subject matter experts in specialist clinical fields and patient regulation.
Staff officers and healthcare professionals will be employed according to their civilian qualifications and experience, but will be expected to work in a challenging military environment that could be in either tents or buildings, using simple but robust equipment.
Unit personnel will use the knowledge and skills that are transferrable from the peacetime setting to operational scenarios across the spectrum of conflict.
The Army Reserve also provides an excellent environment to network with other professional clinical staff as well as extending social circles.
What is a Nationally Recruited Unit (NRU)?
There are three nationally recruited AMS units within the Headquarters based in Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Strensall, near York.
The primary role of these units is to provide appropriately trained personnel to deploy as Individual Augmentees (IAs) or teams in order to support military operations and exercises.
