4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment
4 YORKS are our regionally-based Army Reserve battalion and have companies and detachments in towns and cities across Yorkshire and Teesside.
Over the past few years, 4 YORKS completed a successful multi-national exercise in Lithuania, a major exercise in Denmark, mobilised in support of flood relief in West Yorkshire and to deliver COVID-19 mobile testing teams across the north of England.
In addition, 4 YORKS soldiers were mobilised and deployed alongside the regulars of 2 YORKS on Op Toral 9 in Kabul, and to perform force protection duties in British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK), ably demonstrating the capabilities and utility of the reserves.

Reserve training teaches individual how to lead, solve problems, communicate, present ideas and organise complex events or processes.
It encourages commitment, reliability and confidence. The average commercial value of Reserve training is worth over £10,000.
Operations
2019 to May 2020, an example of the battalion providing soldiers to undergo mobilised service in support of our regular counterparts.
In April 2020, over 150 soldiers were among the first mobilised on the British Army’s Op Rescript to deliver COVID-19 testing across the north of England.
More recently, 31 reserves were mobilised to fulfil an operational commitment in Kenya. In 2022, 4 YORKS deployed to Oman, yet another example of the ability of the Army Reserve to deliver against UK Defence Outputs.
Exercises
4 YORKS routinely undertake training in the UK and overseas, alongside regular and coalition forces.
In recent years, the Yorkshire reserves have trained with 1 YORKS in Canada and with NATO forces in Lithuania and Denmark.
More recently a formed unit of 31 infanteers was mobilised to deployed to British Army Training Unit Kenya to provide essential force protection and guarding duties and in late 2022, 4 YORKS deployed to Oman.
Under Future Soldier, more opportunities for our reserves to train and deploy on operation, either as a unit or, as part of 1 YORKS will continue to demonstrate the capabilities and utility of the reserve.
AfricaThe Army Reserve
The Volunteer Force formed to join the pre-existing Militia (formed in 1801) and Yeomanry in the defence of the nation.
The Yeomanry, Militia and Volunteer Force are merged to form the Territorial Force (named Territorial Army from 1921).
Hundreds of Territorial Force units are mobilised for overseas and homeland defence, many join the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in France in late 1914. In 1916 all TF soldiers were made eligible for overseas service.
Hundreds of Territorial Army units mobilised and many of the pre-existing units join the BEF in France. Later, entire TA Divisions and Brigades join the fight.
Since formation in 2006, 4 YORKS have joined 4th Infantry Brigade and are part of the newly renamed Army Reserve.

The general purpose machine gun (GPMG) can be used as a light weapon and in a sustained fire role.
PRR is issued to every member of an eight-strong infantry section.
The latest camouflage design was developed after extensive laboratory tests and field evaluations.
On its introduction, it proved so accurate that the Army marksmanship tests had to be redesigned.
It has a heavier and longer barrel than the SA80 individual weapon allowing greater muzzle velocity and accuracy.
The SV fleet provides far greater mobility than previous generation cargo vehicles.
High explosive, smoke and illuminating rounds to a maximum range of 5650m.
It has a capacity for a combination of up to four stretchers or six seated casualties.
