Army Adventurous Training

Physical and mental fitness are essential to our people, as is fighting spirit and the will to win; leadership, team cohesion, inclusivity, self-confidence, resilience and determination are also critical to our success.

We promote Adventurous Training (AT) because it develops and nurtures all of these attributes in our people and enhances our military capability.

How we manage adventurous training

An introduction to AT during Basic Training for Officers during Royal Military Academy Sandhurst aLeRT week, and soldiers at DSWs Halton and Sennybridge.

Training delivered at unit level, directed by the chain of command. It can either be single or multi activity. Distributed training foundation qualifications can be gained from single-activity expeditions.

Voluntary expeditions with a particular aim which can be from a unit, several units or even tri-service and range from exploring vast cave networks to gliding above the alps.

There is something for every level of ability and provided the right instructors are available expeditions can achieve the Foundation Qualifications through our distributed training process.

Individual training is conducted at our Adventurous Training Wings.

We deliver Foundation, Leader and Instructor courses, allowing units to build their own capability to mount expeditions.
