Learning Development Officer (LDO)
LDOs work wherever the Army is based and provide officers and soldiers with the military knowledge and functional skills required to be effective in their job and to progress in their careers. LDOs deliver the educational part of the Army Leadership Development Programme to soldiers. An LDO will also be the learning lead for several units within their area of responsibility, creating and developing bespoke packages for them, and deploying with their units on exercises and operations
Army Foundation College (AFC) Instructor
AFC Instructors teach and train junior soldiers aged 16 and 17 on topics such as Military Studies and Personal and Team Development. Currently, the instructors at Harrogate have all taken the opportunity of Platoon Command.
Army Training Regiment (ATR) LDO
ATR LDOs will work at one of the Phase 1 training establishments, looking after the educational and professional development of the soldiers and the permanent staff. They may also have the opportunity to Platoon Command.
Army School of Education (ASE) Instructor
ASE Instructors will be teaching either ETS Young Officers after they leave Sandhurst, serving soldiers on the Potential Officers’ Development Course in preparation for AOSB or Officer Cadets on the Pre-RMAS course in preparation for entry into the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). From the hills of Dartmoor to the art galleries of London, this course requires a range of skills to succeed as a student and an instructor.
Learning and Development Advisor
An LDA provides technical advice on the development of training to all parts of the military, from snipers to signals. Likely working in an HQ or training establishment, you will work with a team of subject matter experts. They will understand the knowledge skills and experience that will need to be developed to complete the training successfully. With an understanding of training from your MSc, you will be able to test their assumptions, schedule course delivery, and assure that the course delivers what it sets out to.
