Who we are

The civilian workforce of 9,500 Army Civil Servants and 2,400 Locally Employed Civilians provides crucial support to the Army in the delivery of its outputs.

Our people support operations across the globe and work hard to protect the United Kingdom through collaborative working that touches all aspects of life in the UK. 

Forming an integral part of a “whole force” approach, we pride ourselves on being an organisation that offers diversity, challenge and reward.

Civil Service roles within the Army are spread far and wide and available in some 300 locations throughout the UK and overseas. These roles can range from teachers, firefighters and psychologists to commercial, finance, project managers and policy staff to name a few, but all of whom play a fundamental role in supporting the Army to serve the Nation.

The Army Civil Service also takes pride in supporting wellbeing in the workplace and offers direct and free access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). The EAP is a confidential employee benefit designed to help staff deal with personal and professional concerns that could affect home or work life, health and general wellbeing. Existing staff can access the EAP via the MOD intranet.
