A UNIQUE RESERVE CAPABILITY DELIVERING FOR DEFENCE
National Reserve Headquarters Royal Artillery is based in Woolwich, the spiritual home of the Royal Artillery, with sub-units in Larkhill and Bath. We provide a range of capabilities from Tactical Air Control Parties and Naval Gunnery Liaison Officers to specialist Staff Officers and Gunnery Instructors.
Our personnel spend most of their time supporting the Regular Army, Navy and Air Force on exercise and operations at home and abroad.

221 (Wessex) Battery
221 Battery provides specialist gunnery staff support across the Field Army, but principally to Regular and Reserve Royal Artillery units and the Royal School of Artillery.
It has a National Reserve Commitment of 19 days a year.

255 (Somerset Yeomanry) Battery
255 (SY) Bty provides Tactical Air Control Parties (TACPs), consisting of Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) and TACP Signallers to support ground forces in the control of Close Air Support (CAS) aircraft; personnel deploy either as formed TACPs or as individual augmentees.
The Bty has a cohort of experienced JTAC Instructors/Evaluators that routinely organise and deliver complex CAS training for Defence and NATO partners.
They have a Regional Reserve Commitment of 27 days a year but with a national geographic recruitment area.

All Arms Staff Pool
The All Arms Staff Pool (AASP) provides individual replacements to support staff officer functionality in Field Army formation Headquarters.
The AASP also includes The Kings’ Troop Royal Horse Artillery support troop and Naval Gunfire Liaison Officers (NGLO’s). NGLO’s deploy on Royal Navy and partner-nation warships to work with 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery and enable naval gunnery.

National Reserve Headquarters Royal Artillery offer a wide range of sports and Adventurous Training.
We focus on skiing, trekking, sailing and mountain biking. Recently we conducted a trekking expedition in California as well as an annual skiing expedition to the Alps.
