Our History

  • 1967 - The regiment was formed as 104 Light Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers). Its units were 210 (Staffordshire) Light Air Defence Battery at Wolverhampton and 211 (South Wales) Light Air Defence Battery at Newport.  The Regiment used the BOFOR light anti aircraft gun.
  • 1969 - 214 (Worcestershire) Light Air Defence Battery at Malvern joined the regiment.  In the early 70’s the regiment re-roled to BLOWPIPE Surface to Air Missile (SAM) system
  • In 1976 the regiment was renamed 104 Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers). 
  • 1986 -  214 Battery was formed at Worcester and 217 (County of Gwent) Air Defence Battery was formed at Cwmbran: both joined the regiment.
  • 1993 - Renamed 104 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) after the regiment re-roled to the JAVELIN Surface to Air Missile (SAM) Syste
  • 2007 -104 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) re-role to an Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) regiment with Phoenix and then DH3 in 2010.
  • 2017 – Re-role to a Close Support Regiment with the L118 Light Gun.
