We deploy worldwide at short notice, supporting all areas of Defence.
As the Royal Engineer's airfield engineering specialists, we regularly deploy to overseas airbases, supporting their airfield infrastructure requirements.

Our People
Our small teams include all ranks, utilising their specialist engineering skills.
The skills required to become an airfield infrastructure specialist are taught during various high quality and well resourced trade courses. Many of our courses are academically accredited, for which 20 Works Group believes is important as an investor in its people and has strong ethos in Continual Professional Development.
Our Location
20 Works Group is located in RAF Wittering, near Peterborough.
As the only Air focused Works Group, we are co-located with 12 Engineer Group (Force Support) and various RAF Units, with whom we deploy regularly. We also have personnel working at RAF Marham, RAF Waddington, RAF Coningsby and Wattisham Flying Station.

Life in the Army
As a Sapper, you will join a specialist team and work closely with a very skilled team utilising your trade. You will complete your class one trade course and return as a subject matter expert.
You will be given responsibility and be expected to organise a small team of your own.
As a subject matter expert, you will be consulted on many important decisions to help complete various engineering projects, to the highest standards.
As a Sapper, you will gain valuable trade experience, with the opportunity to work alongside civilian companies, as well as all Defence Services.
20 Works Group Timeline
20th Army Group Royal Engineers (Airfields) served in the 8th Army during the Second World War. It commanded three Airfield Construction Groups (14, 15 and 69). These Airfield Construction Groups consisted of Royal Engineer Road Construction Companies and Pioneer Corps Companies. Their role was to construct airfields in forward areas.
