6 ARMOURED CLOSE SUPPORT BATTALION REME

Maintaining the Army’s Armoured fighting power, ensuring that it is ready to fight, when required.

6 Armoured Close Support Battalion REME provides Engineering Support to all units in 1 Armoured Infantry Brigade. Always ready to deploy on Operations and Exercises, whilst maintaining readiness in the barracks. We ensure that whenever the Brigade is called upon, the equipment and vehicles are ready to respond and deploy to anywhere in world, maintaining their fighting power, and ability to move and fight.

About

6 Armoured Close Support Battalion formed in April 1993. The role of the Battalion is to Generate and Prepare to deploy suitably trained and equipped Force-Elements as directed by Commander 101 Logistic Brigade in order to meet operational, contingency and regional commitments.

 

Our Skills

6 Armoured Close Support Battalion is responsible for ensuring that the Brigades equipment is ready to use wherever or whenever it is needed. Our people are engineering leaders, and all have a route to professional accreditation. Our soldier trades are:

  • Armourer
  • Recovery Mechanic
  • Electronics Technician
  • Metalsmith
  • Vehicle Mechanic
  • Technical Support Specialist

 

Other specialist cap badges are integrated within the Battalion to enable it to achieve its mission. They are the Royal Logistic Corps, Royal Army Physical Training Corps, Adjutants General Corps, Royal Army Medial Corps and Royal Signals

Our People

REME invests in its people. They achieve incredible things as a result of their training and the sense of belonging that comes with being part of the REME family.

REME Battalions are led by a Commanding Officer, who manage a team of command staff ensuring the Battalion is achieving its mission.

Our Location

REME exist within all parts of the British Army, attached to all Operations, Exercises and units across the globe.

With 6 Armoured Close Support Battalion based at Delhi Barracks in Wiltshire. The Battalion is often deployed to different locations across the globe such as Canada & Oman.

Our Role

6 Armoured Close Support Battalion REME, are tasked with providing equipment support in the form of maintenance, recovery, repair and manufacture to an Armoured Brigade, ensuring battle-winning equipment remains in fighting order.

From repairing Armoured Fighting Vehicles at the frontline of the battle to ensuring weapon systems keep firing as the momentum of the battle continues, we find ourselves spread across the battlespace providing an effect wherever it is needed.

Our personnel are making engineering decisions on a daily basis across the world, whether this is in camp, on exercise overseas or deployed on Operations, that lead to the success of the mission.

6 Armoured Close Support Battalion have been involved in key Army Operations since formation in 1993.

  1. 1993

    Formation of 6 Battalion REME – Battalion was split between Bordon, Tidworth and Catterick

  2. 1999 – 2000

    Deployed to Former Republic of Yugoslavia & OP AGRICOLA 2 Kosovo

  3. 2003 – 2004

    6 Battalion deployed to Iraq on OPTELIC 3 & 4

  4. 2007

    Cpl Adam Miller won the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross

  5. 2013

    Deployed to Afghanistan on OP HERRICK 18

  6. 2018

    Deployed to Oman on Ex SAIF SERREA
