Officer
Our Reserve Officers are responsible for leading, managing and motivating highly skilled soldiers. Being an Officer is one of the ultimate challenges requiring the desire to lead others and take responsibility for them.
All RMP Reserve Officers are required to undertake the standard Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB) and Commissioning Course (CC). Once you have passed out of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) you will be required to attend the Military Police Officers Course (MPOC).
Soldier
As one of our RMP Reserve Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) you will be trained in a variety of policing and military skills that are required to support Regular and Reserve RMP on exercises and operations.
Recruitment
We are looking for committed men and women with good communication skills who are willing to give up their time to train and operate alongside the Regular Army on exercise and operations.
In addition to attracting new recruits into the Army as both Officers and soldiers, we seek to recruit Regular and ex-Regular personnel where opportunities exist. For individuals with the correct aptitude, qualifications and attitude we can also accept Regular, ex-Regular and Army Reservists transferring from other cap badges.
All applicants interested in joining the RMP will go through a criminal vetting process to ensure that they do not have a criminal record. Some non-serious offences and spent convictions may be disregarded if declared at an early stage in the application process. This applies to all new recruits and transferees, irrespective of rank.
To join the Army Reserves you should be between 17½ to 50 years of age.
You must have GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics.
You must be a Commonwealth Citizen and have a reasonable level of fitness in order to undertake training.
Training
The training is demanding but achievable and varied. All RMP Reservists must be trained as a soldier as well as having the requisite ability to undertake police work.
In your first year as a recruit you will need to commit 31 days to training, including a 15 day residential course, to complete your initial soldier training.
Once you have passed out of Phase 1 Training you will need to complete your RMP Special to Arm Phase 2 Training Course, which culminates in being awarded the coveted scarlet beret and the rank of Lance Corporal.
As a trained RMP Reserve NCO you will be expected to commit a minimum of 27 days training each year which includes 15 days of continuous training on a course or annual camp.
