The Joint Service Mountaineering Scheme provides training from purpose-built centres in the UK and overseas. 

It offers structured courses to develop the skills and techniques necessary to:

  • Operate in mountainous terrain in summer, winter and alpine terrain. Students will move up from Foundation through Leader to Instructor qualifications
  • Develop the requisite skills and techniques necessary, to conduct rock climbing, the supervision of single pitch and abseiling activities, then progressing onto winter climbing
There are a wide range of Mountaineering courses on offer at Foundation, Leader and Instructor levels. They are categorised into the following activities:
  • Summer Mountaineering
  • Alpine Mountaineering
  • Winter Mountaineering
  • Rock Climbing
  • Winter/Ice Climbing
