Coming to ATR Winchester is often a new recruit's first time away from home. Army barrack accommodation is not like living at home, and recruits must learn new standards and rules of behaviour. But it’s comfortable and friendly.

Recruits share accommodation with the other members of their section, but there is still a reasonable amount of privacy for the individual. Most rooms are dormitories and sleep four people.

They have inbuilt lockers and drawers. All blocks have adequate shower and toilet facilities which are clean and modern. Male and female recruits have separate accommodation blocks of similar standards.

Bedding is issued, and this includes quilts. All bedding is changed regularly. Accommodation charges are raised monthly and are deducted from wages.
