ITC Catterick runs four versions of the Combat Infantryman's Course:

  • Line Infantry
  • Foot Guards
  • PARAs
  • Gurkha

After completing the Combat Infantryman's Course, recruits attend two weeks of driver training for a Category B driving licence. Recruits who already hold a Category B licence train for and earn a Category C licence.

CIC – Line Infantry


The basis for all the infantry’s CICs. Builds individual skills, then team and platoon skills.

CIC – Foot Guards


Recruits to the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards take this version of the CIC.



All PARA recruits aged 18 and over take this course, which form their combined Phase 1 and 2 training.
