71st (City of London) Yeomanry Signal Regiment

The Regt HQ (RHQ) is based in Bexleyheath, Kent.  There are also four subordinate squadrons:  265 Sp Sqn co-located with RHQ in Bexleyheath; 31 Sig Sqn, based in Uxbridge, Coulsdon and Kingston; 36 Sig Sqn based in Colchester and Chelmsford; and 68 Sig Sqn based in Lincoln’s Inn, Whipps Cross and Romford.

Application and selection

Learn more about the trade options open to you and the steps that will get you there.

Step 1: Call us or send us an email to arrange a visit. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have about the recruitment process or simply make an application online and search for your local unit and they will get in touch with you.

Step 2: Visit us and you’ll get to chat with the recruiting team, watch a DVD about the Army Reserve and begin the enlistment process.

Interview – The initial discussion is our chance to assess your suitability for the Army Reserve and for you to ask any further questions you may have. You will also be asked about your fitness and complete a medical questionnaire. You will be assessed at this interview and a development plan for your initial selection will be explained to you.

Selection – Selection takes place at the Army Reserve Recruit Selection Centre in Aldershot. Your fitness will be assessed and you will undergo a medical before you can start training. The fitness test will consist of a 1 ½ mile run to be completed in under 14 minutes.

Attestation – You will swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen and this is the final stage of the recruiting process, you now become a member of the Army Reserve and are ready to start your modular recruit training.
