Edinburgh Castle welcomes another Bruce as Governor

The Army in Scotland today bid a fond farewell to Major General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich OBE DL VR as he went out with a ‘bang’ firing the iconic One O’clock Gun and taking his final Salute, as Governor of Edinburgh Castle.

On Sunday 1st September 2024 representatives of the Welsh Guards returned once more to Arras for yet another warm welcome from the City, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Welsh Guards liberation of Arras and to receive The Freedom of the City.

Army highlights from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2024

The Massed Pipes and Drums in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is made up of more than 230 pipers and drummers and this year included the Pipes and Drums of 1st Battalion Irish Guards, 1st Battalion Scots Guards, The Royal Gurkha Rifles and the Combined Pipes and Drums of the Royal Tank Regiment and the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry, supported by fellow pipers and drummers and military musicians from around the world. The iconic lone piper marks the close of festivities and it is tradition for serving personnel to take on this prestigious role. This year five bagpipers were selected for the honour by the Director of Army Bagpipe Music.
