Arrival of Their Majesties The King and Queen to Edinburgh

In advance of Their Majesties The King and Queen’s official annual visit to Scotland, British Army soldiers proudly mounted guard at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Edinburgh Castle.

Members of Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (BKA Coy, 5 SCOTS) and The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards will show immense discipline over the next few days as they provide ceremonial guard at the Palace and Castle respectively.

As The King arrived into the Gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, BKA Coy provided the Guard of Honour with musical accompaniment from the Pipes, Drums and Bugles of the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland and The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

16 Regiment Royal Artillery fired the Royal Gun Salute at Edinburgh Castle and British Army Band Tidworth provided musical support with Lance Sergeant Macrae Scots Guards piping solo.

The annual Arrival Parade and Ceremony of the Keys is when His Majesty The King symbolically receives the keys to the City of Edinburgh, offered by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh.

This event is one of many State Ceremonial and Public Duties which the British Army in Scotland provides support to.
