The Royal Engineers have taken delivery of a rapidly deployable Medium Girder Bridge for use on operations and humanitarian tasks.
The Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) will provide a lightweight medium gap capability and will meet the challenges of the future integrated operating concept.
Chosen for its versatility and deployability, the MGB can be configured in several different ways. These include the ability to concurrently build a 31-metre double-storey and a five-bay single storey version. It can also be used with any other MGB of any age.
Lieutenant Colonel Brad Hardwick, Senior Staff Officer responsible for the Military Engineering Combat 2028 Programme, said: "This modernised integrated capability will give the British Army ever greater freedom to delivery military effects at a time and place of its choosing, as part of the overall Modernising Defence Program."
Delivered ahead of schedule, this is the first of 17 rapidly deployable Medium Girder Bridges (MGB) that were secured by Defence Equipment and Support for delivery by the end of 2025.
UK Minister for Defence Procurement, Jeremy Quin MP, said: “These bridges provide our Armed Forces with vital capabilities in both Military and Disaster Relief operations.”
