A source of great pride and inspiration – Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2021

The exceptional qualities of 56 service personnel are being recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2021.

Recipients are cited for a wide range of activities, such as championing the needs of personnel, leading on conservation, representing the Army with distinction and providing outstanding support to the COVID-19 response.

Colour Sergeant James Lambie, 2 PARA, who wanted to ‘give back’ to Army recruits is to be awarded the MBE. He manages a large cohort of recruits undergoing rehabilitation.

His citation says: “As someone who went through rehabilitation as a recruit, he has a particularly compassionate understanding of the importance of the role, centred on returning fit and motivated recruits back into mainstream training.”

CSgt Lambie, 36, was shocked when he was told. He said he wanted to return the favour: “Because someone saw something in me and put themselves forward and took me on at risk. I just wanted to do the same. I can’t take all the credit.”

Warrant Officer Class 2 Sheridan Lucas, Royal Engineers, has been cited for an MBE for her role as Company Sergeant Major of 1st Infantry Training Battalion, Infantry Training Centre, Catterick where she has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the first male and female integrated platoons.

A role model to female recruits, WO2 Lucas has been dedicated to shaping the way the Infantry trains Women in Ground Close Combat. She said: “I was very lucky to see the first female recruits, having taken them through their training and watch them pass off. It was an honour to have seen that happen - history in the making.

“I am totally shocked and overwhelmed. The Role at ITC was a privilege and honour, supporting the first females make history.”

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “Congratulations to our esteemed Armed Forces personnel receiving state honours from Her Majesty The Queen in this year’s Birthday Honours List.

“The work our people do every day is nothing short of exceptional and I am proud to see so many individuals recognised for going above and beyond the call of duty to achieve excellence.”

“They are a great source of pride and inspiration for our country.”

Royal Victorian Order

As well as those listed below receiving state honours, Her Majesty The Queen has also bestowed a personal honour on a select group of soldiers who were closely involved in the funeral of The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in April.

Queen’s Company Grenadier Guards Bearer Party will be made members of the Royal Victorian Order, an order of Knighthood instituted by Queen Victoria in 1896 to reward personal service to the monarch.

The Land Rover Hearse drivers for the funeral, Corporal Louis Murray and Commander Corporal Craig French, both of the REME, are also being made members of the Order.

Below is the list of Army personnel who are to receive State level awards, as well as those who are to be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM)
