Irish Guards Drumhead Service

Today troops from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards took time out from their training schedule for a Drumhead Service in the field to mark the 101st Armistice Day.

The Irish Guards have been on their Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRX) at Bodney Camp on Stanford Training Area near Thetford.

The MRX is their final proving exercise which includes an assessment to ensure they are ready for their deployment in the near future to Iraq on Operation SHADER. This is the UK’s military contribution to countering Daesh in Levant.

A Drumhead service is a traditional Army ecumenical service held in the field in which the Regimental drums are placed on top of each other to form an altar.
