Nursing careers

Delivering the highest standards of care in diverse locations, places great demand on Army Nurses and Health Care Assistants, so we make sure that everyone has the best possible military and professional training.

Your Army career as a soldier or an officer starts with approximately three months basic military training. This consists of learning all the skills you need as either an Officer or a Soldier in The British Army. You will then either commence your pre-registration training within The British Army, or if you are already qualified, you will move onto your first job location (posting).

Qualified nurses have access to a full range of courses and have the opportunity to specialise in many areas of nursing up to and beyond Masters Level. There is a full pathway for professional development at both soldier and officer level.

Health Care Assistants study initially an Apprentice at level 3 in Clinical Healthcare support and are encouraged to go beyond this by becoming an Assessor and Internal Verifier. On merit HCA's are selected to complete a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care.

But believe me, it's not all work; a career in the QARANC also gives you plenty of other opportunities to take part in all of the following:

  • Sports (Football, Rugby, Athletics, Swimming, Horse Riding, Cricket etc)
  • Adventurous Training (Winter Sports, Climbing, Kayaking etc)
  • Professional and Military Development (Nursing/Medical PD events, leadership courses etc)

Being in the Army gives you access to

  • Free Dental Care
  • Free Medical Care
  • Armed Forces Discount Cards and organisations such as Ticket for Troops
  • Subsidised Rail Travel (1/3 off all fares with HM Forces Rail Card)
  • Subsidised Accommodation wherever you are based (Single (Room) and Married (House) ranging from £20-180pcm)
  • Subsidised Boarding School fees
  • Non-contributory Pension
