Dundee is known as the "City of Discovery". This is because Captain Scott's famous Antarctic expedition ship R.R.S. Discovery is berthed near to the Discovery Point Visitors Centre. The city has an industrial background in textiles and is widely known as the city of "jam and jute". However in common with many cities in the UK it is now a vibrant modern city with a mix of modern industries, centres of learning excellence and up market social life.

Because of it's geographical location, the military history of Dundee is entwined with the Highland Regiments and the 51st Highland Division. The creation of Dundee Squadron 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (V) in 1995, is another part of it's commitment to the long association with our UK Land Forces. Pictured left is the City Council's Coat of Arms.

University of DundeeIn keeping with the doctrine of the 1990's, the Army in Scotland restructured the Army Medical Services to have their Squadrons centralised with major teaching Hospitals and Universities. The University of Dundee offers a Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing. Naturally such institutions are relied upon by the Army Medical Services for recruitment and supply of Medical Personnel to both the Regular Army and the Territorial Army. Tayforth University Officer Training Corps can provide a taste of military life for these undergraduates.

NHS Tayside provides Health Care in the Dundee/Perth area within the County of Angus. The teaching Hospital of Ninewells and the large City Hospital of Perth Royal Infirmary have in the past supplied the Army with Health Care Professionals across the spectrum. We hope this relationship will continue.
