Since 159 Regiment RLC formed in 2008, its personnel have supported operations across the world. In particular, over 130 personnel deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation HERRICK. Closer to home, another 50 supported the military contribution to the UK Olympics in 2012. Most recently, 7 members of the Regiment deployed on Operation TOSCA, the UN Peacekeeping mission in Cyprus.

Many people who join the Army Reserve are concerned about the prospect of deploying on operations.

It is key to understand that, in all but a real national emergency, Reservists who deploy on operations are volunteers, who do so having discussed with their families and employers.

This has certainly been the case with all our Reservists who have deployed to Afghanistan, on Operation OLYMPICS and latterly to Cyprus.
