Musician Corkish - Tenor Horn
Musician (Musn) Bobby Corkish began playing the Tenor Horn at age seven with Rushen Silver Band in the south of the Isle of Man. He later became a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain for five years under the direction of the late Bramwell Tovey.
In 2013, Musn Corkish moved to Manchester to begin his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) under the tuition of Sheona White and Owen Farr where he was appointed first Horn of The Fairey Band in Stockport. With them, Musn Corkish performed across all of Europe, including high profile concerts in Berlin and Paris. He featured on showcase BBC and Sky Arts productions, including ‘A day in the life’, ‘Battle of the Brass Bands’ and ‘A Brass Band Wonderland’, accompanying renowned artists and celebrities such as Russell Watson, Jason Manford and Collabro as well as a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 with the award winning A4 Brass Quartet.
Upon completion of his studies at the RNCM in 2017, Musn Corkish relocated from Manchester to South Wales to join The Cory Band, travelling Europe and America. He contributed to the bands' success in winning every major brass band contest, including the European, British Open and National Championships of Great Britain - known as the 2019 'Grand Slam'.
Musn Corkish joined the British Army in October 2021, and upon completion of Basic and Initial Trade Training, was assigned to British Army Band Tidworth where he currently occupies the first Horn seat.
Musn Corkish said, “Being a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain was my first experience of high level brass band playing. I had the opportunity of working with not only great musicians who have gone on to play with the world’s best brass bands and beyond, but also being led by incredible tutors and conductors.
This ignited the spark in me which led me to being a member of The Fairey Band and The Cory Band, and now I get to play in a professional brass band as a musician in the British Army.
It’s immensely exciting that the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and British Army Music have become partner organisations, which opens up the pathway to so many more young brass players to be able to go on and make music their career. I wouldn’t be here playing my tenor horn, as a full-time professional musician, without the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain so this really is an exciting and important partnership.”
Now I get to play in a professional brass band as a musician in the British Army.
