Specialism: Symphonic Wind Band
British Army Band Sandhurst is comprised of musicians from The Royal Corps of Army Music and is one of 14 Regular Army Bands in the British Army. Based in Surrey, it is a 43-piece symphonic wind band incorporating The Band of the Royal Logistic Corps and The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals.
Its main roles include providing musical support at passing out parades in the surrounding areas, such as Army Training Centre Pirbright and Sovereign’s parades for the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Other engagements include dinner nights with smaller ensembles and supporting military sporting events.
The band has a working big band, contemporary group and a number of smaller ensembles, including brass quintets, saxophone quartet and woodwind quartet.
The Royal Corps of Army Music can offer full time employment as a musician within the British Army. A pensionable career potentially to the age of 60. Fantastic travel opportunities with the chance to perform at great venues and events around the world.

Lance Corporal Greenwood - Saxophone & Guitar
Lance Corporal (LCpl) Robert Greenwood joined The Royal Corps of Army Music in 2011 as a saxophonist and guitarist. He has served in a variety of bands; performing in central London with the Band of the Welsh Guards, in one of the Corps’ specialist contemporary bands, The Band of the Adjutant’s General Corps, and in a multi-capability band, The Band of The Royal Logistic Corps.
LCpl Greenwood grew up in Caterham, Surrey where he learnt to play the guitar from age seven and saxophone from age ten. Throughout his childhood he performed regularly with the school wind band and county music services. At age 15, he decided he wanted to join The Royal Corps of Army Music after a visit to his school from The Band of The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
In 2015 LCpl Greenwood took the opportunity to undertake a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Performance Industries. This was partly funded by the Army and he gained a first in this degree. In addition, LCpl Greenwood has participated in smaller specialist ensembles such as the British Army Jazz Orchestra and outside of the Army as part of a contemporary function band.
His most notable tours include America, Canada, Afghanistan, Cyprus and Gibraltar. His career highlights include performing at the 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony and being selected for the Army Skiing Championships in 2018. He said, “A huge highlight of my career was the opportunity to experience the pride in competing at a high level of sporting success whilst having the stability of a career that encompasses my passion for playing music.”
