The 2nd Battalion, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

The 2nd Battalion is based in Weeton near Blackpool. It is part of 42nd Infantry Brigade and is a light role infantry battalion. The battalion specialises in dismounted close combat operations using light vehicles and foot and is capable of operating in a variety of terrain either as a Battle Group or as independent Company Groups.

The last 12 months have been a very busy period for the Battalion. Storms have been a heavy feature of this time. Firstly, the battalion has trained in Kenya on Exercise Askari Storm. Then over Christmas and the new year, as the 'UK Standby Battalion', it was at the forefront of the MOD's response to the worst flooding seen in the North of England for generations. The battalion has also been heavily involved in Defence Engagement with training tasks in East Africa. It is now having a period of intense training in preparation for an operational deployment in 2017. The battalion will also provide a company to 4 LANCS as part of Op Tosca.

There has also been a considerable amount of adventurous training and sport including trekking expeditions to Spain and Morocco plus sailing, skydiving, mountain biking. Currently the battalion has an excellent boxing team, and a fantastic Football team.
