The 1st Battalion, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

The 1st Battalion has been based in Episkopi - Cyprus since mid 2015. Before moving to Cyprus the battalion trained in Kenya. It continues in the light battalion role and is therefore deployable by helicopter, vehicle and on foot.

The battalion will be in Cyprus for three years and will have an operational role throughout this time. Initially, it was responsible for protecting vital infrastructure in Cyprus. It has now taken the role of Regional Standby Battalion, with soldiers held at very high readiness and prepared to deploy anywhere in the Middle East and North Africa region as military tasking's require.

2015 saw the battalion training in Estonia and Gibraltar as well as meeting its on island guarding commitments.

Away from training and operational commitments the 1st Battalion places a high priority on sport and adventurous training. The Alpine ski team is one of the best in the Infantry since arriving in Cyprus and the rugby league is a popular sport at which the battalion excels.. Cyprus will provide further opportunities to experience new challenges and adventurous activities.
